The Inca’s Mushroom Stones

This traditional village housed in Cologne to the Cajas Reales, being where the coin was minted and Quintos gathered from the King to be transferred to Lima. There we can enjoy the landscape and nature, we find the Inca ruins of the Temple of Fertility Inca Uyo, which according to archaeologists was a shrine to fertility where sacred rituals afrecidos are made to the Pachamama and the sun, besides being a site astronomical observation. They will also visit its colonial churches like the Church of the Assumption and the main square sundial seen in marble. Also visit the Trout Hatchery University, consisting of a fish farm where lots of trout, where you different types of this species, which are shown in different environments are raised.

There are many myths in the past of the temple of fertility of Inka Uyo. In Inka Uyo, this temple surrounded by stone phallus serves only to cure the sterility of women with a magical ritual.

It is likely that you have already seen pictures of the temple. The temple stands with its foundations in the small town of Chucuito, about 18 kilometers south of Puno lies south on the shores of Lake Titicaca. It is not very big, but inside you will find more than 80 stone phalluses. Some are broken or mutilated in the room.

This temple is also called Inka Uyo and the words in Aymara mean “virile member of the Inca”. Beyond eroticism, Inka Uyo is a temple of fertility, in which the miracle of human reproduction was honored and helped infertile women to enjoy their children.

How did it work?

It is said that many women regained lost fertility in a strange ritual. They had nine leaves of coka and chicha lilac corn to bring to the ceremony, then sat down on a stone phallus and threw the chicha around them.

Itinerary

09:00 am: Departure from your hotel in Puno, towards Chucuito.

09:30 am: Arrival to visit Chucuito and Inca Uyo, Santo Domingo Church and Asuncion, Mirador, Psicultura (if open).

11:30 am: Return to Puno.
